Project Runway is in full effect at Abby's TuTu Factory!

It was a gloomy and rainy day at Abby's TuTu Factory and I was working away trying to get all my projects done for the week. The kids were in the other room playing away and starting to get a little rowdy. Needless to say they were driving me nuts being a couped up in the house.  So I decided to put them to work so I can get my work done. I brought Luke and Abby into my sewing room, gave them a huge box of scraps of fabric, tulle and ribbon, and sat them down in front of my mannequins. Before I knew it they were working away pinning fabric pieces on the mannequins. They did this for hours trying figure out what fabric should go where and pinning layer after layer. You could see the tiny spinning wheels spinning away through their little eyes. I was in awe at how quiet and tediously they worked. So what does a mother do to document a moment in history that may never happen again in her lifetime. Yep I brought out the camera! I may never see my two children getting along so well and working so hard at something ever again. Plus I knew I could use the photos later on in life to embarass my son and show them to all his girlfriends. OHHH I am such an awful mommy. So now I am sharing this history making moment with you and hoping you get a kick out of my photos, just like I did. I just love creative play, it is such a wonderful thing to introduce into your child's life. Here are Luke and Abby with their wonderful creative designs LOL.

Trick or Treating

I love this time of year. The leaves are falling, the weather is cool, and there are so many pumpkin recipes to eat, I just might turn into a pumpkin myself. I think Halloween has to be the best and most fun holiday ever. I love all the spooky decorating in the house and making a haunted graveyard in the front yard. You get to dress up to be whatever you want and go door to door to recieve a bucket full of candy. There is absolutley no stress involved in this holiday, just the best parties. Even though this year I didnt attend any parties, I enjoyed watching my two children light up everytime a piece of candy dropped into their orange pumpkin buckets. Going from door to door they did not tire once, they just kept truckin on to the next house til their buckets were completely full. The minute we got home and walked through the door, the pumpkins were dumped out on the floor for my two kids to examine what they had recieved from all the houses. It was great to watch their faces as they picked up each individual piece of candy and asked "What is this?"  What could be better than a magical day of pretend and a load of candy!

On my way to the Post Office today!

Well today was an interesting day. Abby and I were headed out to the post office to ship out all the orders that I recieved earlier this week but never quite made it. The roads were so muddy and slippery, they ran us right off the road and into a ditch. It was alittle awakening you could say and Abby and I ended up having to crawl through the passenger window to get out of the car. We are just fine but we had to hiked back home in the yucky mud and call my mom to get someone to pull the car out. What a day! Here are some pictures of today's event. All of today's shipment will just have to wait til tomorrow.

A Fun day

Posted by Brittney Sweeney on Monday, October 5, 2009
Today was a fun day in the park. It was Kawanis Kids Day. I had entered my two kiddos in the costume contests and costume parade. Luke was entered in the Pet and Owner catagory and Abby was entered in the Costume catagory. The many kids and costumes that showed up were just adorable and a lot of fun to see. The pet and owner catagory that Luke was entered was an especially cute catagory. All the kids were dressed in costumes with their pets to match. Luke and I made the decision to make a spider costume that we had seen on the internet. Our little dog, Charlie, was Luke's captured fly. He was just so cute and very cooperative with his homemade bug eyes and little fly wings. They both made a buggy little team. Luke and Abby both recieved 2nd place in their catagories. The pet and owner that beat Luke and Charlie out was this most adorable girl and pony team. They were both dressed as tutu wearing ballerinas. You can just imagine how adorable a little pony would look in a pink tutu.

Rainbow Brite Halloween TuTu Costume

Posted by Brittney Sweeney on Wednesday, September 23, 2009
This fun and wonderful costume I remember from my childhood, Rainbow Brite, has such originality. I wanted to make a costume I remembered and loved from when I was just about Abby's age. I asked my friend Lindsay from Crochet D'Lane to custom make me some super cute leg and arm warmers to go with the rainbow brite costume. And did she ever do a good job. I tried to keep these for myself but I couldnt get my big o feet and hands in them. UGH! But I think Abby just might look a little cuter in them than I would.
I only have this one rainbow brite availble and after this one sells there wont be anymore til next halloween.

Abby is a cover girl!

Halloween Costume line by Abby's TuTu Factory a huge success!

Posted by Brittney Sweeney on Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Halloween 2009 was a huge success for Abby's TuTu Factory. It isnt even October yet and I am just about sold out of everything. I had no idea that this year would hit off like it did. This was my first true halloween tutu costume collection and once I got started it just took off from there and didnt stop. I started of with my watermelon tutu and wanted to create something super fluffy and different from all the other watermelon tutus I have been seeing around.

Next was the collection to shoot with Rockstarr and Co. Photography. For the photos I designed a lady bug tutu costume, apumpkin tutu costume, angel costume, and a funky super cute witch costume. The lady bug costume was a simple red tutu dress with matching lady bug wings. I made polka dots out of black damask fabric for a more elegant and sophiticated look. The pumpkin tutu dress was so flippin adorable and I loved the way it turned out with the vibrant orange tulle all gathered at the knees and several oversized silk leaves to add some pizazz at the top. The one thing I didnt get to do and wish I had had the time to make was a little pumpkin headpiece to match.

The witch costume I designed this year, I wanted it to be for that little fashionista girl. The one who is always super stylish no matter what she wears even if it is a witch costume. With the multi-colored super fluffy tutu and the cute little witches hat to match, this is a must have for all girls small or grown up. This witch costume was one of my top sellers and boy did I sell quite a few of them. This one is definatley coming back for next year.

The angel tutu costume was so simple yet elegant with the simple white tutu, feathered angel wings and a beautiful custom hair piece. Rockstarr and Co photography did a phenomenal job with the editing to create something truely artistic. I would have never have thought to do something like what she did with the angel photos.

Then came the Bewitching Costume which is a long black tutu dress with Abby's TuTu Factory signature criss cross weave overlay*. This witch tutu costume was another one of my top sellers and my absolute favorite costume I have made so far. I love the colors of the weave that coordinate with the colors of the belt around the dress. The witch's hat was a fun creative piece to make and I added the criss cross effect to the hat for a more dramatic and coordinating appeal.

Next was a costume inspired by Abby's favorite singer, Hannah Montana. Abby looked absolutely adorable in her hannah costume I almost didnt want to sell it. The sequin top was made from an old tank top that I never wore and just turned it into this cute costume. The rocker tutu colors and cute little hair accessory made this costume pop right out of the picture. I wish I would have bought more sequin tank tops back in the day if I would have know they would have made such a cute little costume for girls. I was only able to make this one outfit so someone out there definately has a true ATF original. You better hold on to it when I become famous that outfit will be worth a fortune.LOL

My next two costumes were definatley the crowds favorite. I wouldnt have guessed that the pirate costume and the red riding hood costume would be the biggest top sellers of all of my costumes. The pirate costume has been talked about and passed around in blogs all over the internet. With and idea I thouht was so simple and ordinary turned into something that got me really noticed by ppl. The compliments after compliments on this costume was so wonderful I couldnt beiliev they were actually talking about me.

Finally there is the Puppet costume and the black cat costume. The Puppet costume was one of my most interesting pieces and it just came out of left field. First I found the amazing material and knew right away I wanted to do something with it. I had no idea what I was going to do and just started cutting and sewing. Once the outfit was put together I knew I wanted the top hat to top it off and complete the outfit. Once I tried the costume onto Abby I just knew where I need to go with this costume. I was inspired by a past episode of America's Next Top Model where one the models had to be a puppet dummy for her photoshoot. So I immediately grabbed some string, taped it to the ceiling and asked Abby to act like a doll. And she did a beautiful job at it too. I was so impressed by my daughter's ability that day, I couldnt believe it and it definately shows in the photos.

And many many more to see. I am not done yet and you will have to definatley tune in next year for my whole new collection plus this one to shop from..............

How to make Luke's Scarecrow costume

Posted by Brittney Sweeney on Friday, August 28, 2009

Items need:

  1. Old jeans- one to two sizes bigger
  2. Old Flannel shirt
  3. Craft hay or straw
  4. sissors
  5. Hot glue gun
  6. Hot glue stixs
  7. Hat

Believe it or not this costume is so budget friendly. I bought the shirt and jeans and hat at this huge goodwill store. So I think the whole costume including supplies cost less than $20. When Luke wore this costume out to the town festival everyone ohhhhed and awwwed over him. It was so funny how many people stopped us and said how great his costume was.
Now to make the scarecrow costume. If the shirt and jeans are too big, which is best for this look, cut the sleeves to length and set extra pieces aside. You will need them again. Fold the jean legs up to length suitable for the child. Next take the extra pieces from the flannel shirt and cut a few squares out of them. Take the squares and hot glue them onto the jeans like patches.
Next take your straw and cut to length desired for the end of the sleeves and jeans. Hot glue the straw inside the sleeve cuff and inside the jeans cuff just like above.(You may not be able to see bottom of jeans) Then take the other straw and cut to length desired for the collar of the shirt and glue straw under collar. Finally cut what straw you have left for the hat and glue around inside the hat. Let dry. Viola! You are done.....

My Fashionating dress is the most popular! aka Criss- Cross TuTu

Posted by Brittney Sweeney on Saturday, August 15, 2009
It has been quite some time since I have come out with my very popular fashionating tutu aka criss cross tutu and since then so many tutu makers have been trying to duplicate this fabulous look. I should be somewhat flattered by all the copycats but for some reason it is a little annoying. Oh well! I just love this tutu and its versitile look with the criss-cross weaving. I have made this look so many times and trying to make it a little different each time I do it. I figured it keeps the copycatters on thier toes to try to figure this one out. I guess you can say that this tutu put me on the map and got me noticed. I have been blessed to come up with a design as popular and innovative as the fashionating tutu. Just remember where it all started.
